What's your favourite brand of filter
Afternoon all,
I'm looking for advice on what the best brand of filters are. I'm after ND, Graduated ND, Warming and a super duper UV. I read that Leica are the best because they are the thinest - is this true? What else should I be looking for?
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
L

Re: What's your favourite brand of filter
Hello Louise,
As far as best goes, Singh-ray filters are right up there. In saying this, you do pay a lot for them.
Here is a link to there site: http://www.singh-ray.com/index.html
Thin filters can be good, however some of them can not be stacked with other filters because in order to make them thin, the threads have been removed.
Hope this helps.

Re: What's your favourite brand of filter
I use Singh-Ray exclusively for my ND and GND requirements - and Heliopan SH-PMC for UV "Protectors". If you're keen, you can have a read of how I use some of their filters on the Singh-Ray blog.

Re: What's your favourite brand of filter
For a Strong UV block, I picked up a B+W 420 which has a slight yellow tint.
I have gotten filters from B+W, Hoya, Tiffen, MaxMax, Sigma, and my criteria is the spectral performance, not all filter manufacturers make all possible filters.

First thing I do is put Hoya UVs on all lenses.
Then, at the moment, I use Cokin NDs and Grads and (occassionally) polariser. Have wondered about upgrading to Lee (Singh-Ray out of my reach), but now reflecting on whether I need to given the sort of stuff I produce.

Re: What's your favourite brand of filter
I use B+W and Hoya Multicoated filters pretty well exclusively. I understand that the high-grade Calumet line of filters (at least their CPL filters) is manufcturer by Schneider, the manufacturer to B&W. From the price (about $140 for 77mm) I would be inclimed to believe that.
