She knows where every penny is: C&C Appreciated

    All,

More photos from Rome. This was in a local food/butcher store we visited during a food tour we took on our visit to Rome.

As our guide was talking, I turned around and found this adorable lady dressed to the 9, going through the records of the store. She is the mother of the current owner, and reports daily and does the books. You can be sure she know where every penny comes and goes in the store.

I am struggling a bit with which composition to go with....

I like this one as it tells a bit more of story where she is at...

I can go in even tighter to focus on her...

Any thoughts or inputs are welcome.

    Hi Erik,

At the risk of unintentionally attracting her attention, I might have tried to crouch a little to get the shot from lower angle, keeping the camera horizontal, which would help by making the verticals vertical.

I also don't think you need all the lower foreground.

With partial perspective correction, in lieu of shooting from lower, here's a suggested crop which I think retains much of what says "Rome" to me - e.g. the scooter outside, in addition to the shop itself.

If you don't wish me to edit your image, let me know and I'll remove this version.

    Cheers, Dave

Dave - Thanks for the edits. I see what you mean.

I did get some lower - eye level shots (w/o distracting her) but they did not come out as well. In those shots she was not working the receipt book like she is in these two photos. I really like the fact she is doing something with the books in this one. The others did not have the same impact.

I like you edit and thanks for showing me that option. I think I will go with your version.

There is another option of cropping from the bottom and right side which retains your current image size ratio. In fact there are several crop alternatives available here.

Erik - my thoughts were similar to Dave's when I looked at it. In fact I would probably go a bit further in the crop and remove the doorway and crop to the edge of the display case. That gives a totally different perspective.

I find that in both of your originals, there is too much material that distracts from the subject. As Geoff has already said, there are several other alternative crops.

Now that's the type of tour I like to take. Usually the guides take you somewhere to display the artisans of the region with the intent on you buying the wares. You can't go wrong with a food tour as long as the expiration dates aren't too off. Nice shot.
