So far as I know it only works with Nikon's Capture software. I haven't seen any references in other RAW convertors that they can use this data. I'd love to be wrong about that...

I have used Nikon's software almost exclusively for years and I've never taken the time to use a dust-off reference file. That's because I've never had a need for it and haven't wanted to take the time trying to determine how effective it is. I've spent those years participating in a forum devoted exclusively to using Nikon software and I don't remember anyone mentioning the capability. I don't understand what advantage it has over using a healing type clone tool, especially if the tool is content-aware.

Canon has something similar in many of its newer bodies, called Dust Delete Data. However, AFAIK, it only works with Canon's own DPP software. If someone knows that LR accepts the Dust Delete Data information, please correct me.
