    Champagne Dreams

I’m not a huge champagne fan.

But I have posted three or four shots with that as a kind of theme over the years!

I have an empty prop bottle and this full one on hand.

So while I was re-setting the studio for a re-shoot of something else I thought I would do something fun! The Child in me wanted to blow bubbles!

This is two gelled lights fired to get a nice (I hoped) gradient BG and a lot of bubble blowing!

    F/11
    1/200th shutter
    ISO 100
    Two lights fired.
Half a bottle of soap bubbles blown!

    Thank you Barbara!

If it wasn't before, it should be obvious by now that I am easily amused!

    Hi Terry,

This is beautiful! I adore the creativity, plus as usual so perfectly photographed and such a gorgeous background (colours/tones).

I would like to ask if you photographed the bubbles separately or if this is a one shot image. If the latter, how does one do that and keep all the bubbles so perfectly sharp with such perfect clarity. (mine dissolve and one can see streaks of running soapy colour inside the bubbles)

    Thank you.

    Hi Christina!

    Thank you for commenting.

This is eight shots merged. The bubbles were not shot individually. I took what I thought was the best of what I shot, looking at the placement of the bubbles in relation to the glasses/bottle and used those. The individual shots look the same just without as many bubbles.

They are just like shooting transparent glass spheres and the same techniques can be used. Probably the color on the BG helps with the streaking. Another thing that helps is using flash. That stops any movement in the bubble solution as it moves with the bubbles and I can shoot at max sync, which without any lights fired, gives a black frame. Since the only light in the scene is coming off the background straight into the camera, and nothing is very close by, I also get no reflections from anything in the room. You only get the black outline and the color just like the glasses.

If your interested I did this same set-up but added another accent light, for a little different look! This light did add some reflection.

Thank you for sharing. I adore the 2nd image, too, but this one is still my favourite for the colours/background and magical look to the bubbles.

    Thank you.

    Well Christina,

Then my response to the deleted question will be another day too!

It probably wouldn't have helped you much anyway!

    Thank you Nandakumar!

The way I understand it, the Canon Design Team sits around blowing bubbles while brainstorming! So it’s easy to see why Canon specializes in bubble shots!
