    Venice Wash Day (B&W)

This is an old one, can't remember if I've posted it on here before. But this morning I reworked the PP.

    C&C welcome

    Venice Wash Day (B&W)

    Here is a tighter crop:

    Thanks for viewing.

I prefer the original composition, the crop makes the laundry the center of attention; whereas in the original my eyes roam around more and the woman, patterns, and lines are better emphasized. Nice capture.

Matt normally I am a HUGE fan of your work but this one falls flat for me. I am not sure what it is maybe the subject matter and my aversion to laundry. However with that being said I prefer #1.

Like them; but with John and Kim that the first is better.

The same for me, though I do wish the woman had been in a different position in the window or at least had been looking toward the laundry or the camera. She seems to be looking at something not included in the scene.

You seem to be emphasizing the dark tones in your conversions, so I'm posting the following version for your consideration. Though I was limited by not having the color version, I was able to attend somewhat to the dark tones by brightening the tonalities of some of them and some of the mid tones. However, I was unable to attend to the darkest tones and their lack of detail. If you prefer such large areas lacking detail, that's fine but for me that seems to be at odds with a scene that has so much detail.

Cheers everyone, Mike I do prefer your edit... I like my B&W images with high contrast and sometimes I go too far with the blacks.

Consider two versions of the same image: Both versions have true whites and the same amount of those whites. Both images have true blacks but the first version has a lot more of those blacks than the second version.

Both versions will have the same contrast but the second version will also display more detail. My point is that when two versions display the same blacks, the version that displays more of them does not display more contrast; it only displays less detail.

I really like the contrast and the available details of this image; really well done; need some perspective correction?

    Regards

I'll show this to my wife so she'll appreciate her gas dryer out in the garage a little more.
Nice effort, I like Mike's version of it too.
