SteveNot as good as this lot but I'm not being left out.
A very clean and calming shot. There is something about this that just works.
Cheers; good stuff as usual.
Good shots, Steve, especially #1 which is a very cool blue. Why do I see people exercising when I look at #4? (note to self: change prescription)
Superb Rob, just superb. I would like to know the secret of the b/w conversion. It is absolutely spot on. I will not mention the economic framing at top and lower left since the impact of the image pales them into insignificance.. You are on a roll at the moment always coming up with one shot that is better than the last.Bench cloudscape
I have to admit that the Welshman is producing a quality that is beginning to influence my aspirations....there I said it.....although I expect it has little to do with the Welsh Assembly
Steve
Not only do I endorse all that Steve says - it is indeed 'spot on'. But ... Interestingly one of our colleagues has just posted a question about composition and over the past couple of days we've been exchanging posts about learning to critique and to do so by really studying the work of others. Well, here's a chance to cover all those bases.
Do you think this works? Why?
For me, a crucial element is not only in terms of the lighting, or the B & W conversion. Look at the patterns made by the arm rests and their reflections. So, the image is 'sold' to us as a reflection of clouds in a metal seat. But, in your mind, take away the arm rests and their reflections - would it be such a strong image? I don't think so. Similarly, mentally move Rob's shooting position - If he had chosen to be shooting from a higher up or lower down shooting position, would he have achieved the same symmetry made by the pattern of the armrests and their refelctions?
It is a cracker. And of course, devolved government has everything to do with the creative energy pouring out of Wales and Scotland - particularly now that we have a Tory UK-wide government in London again that we can get really angry at.

Government...Art...same sentence. I think Art frightens politicians. Too much free thought. You do have a point about anger evoking seriously good art and music though. Strong emotion is the life blood of cutting edge art.devolved government has everything to do with the creative energy pouring out of Wales and Scotland - particularly now that we have a Tory UK-wide government in London again that we can get really angry at.

Thanks, Steve, and Donald and Antonio.
I took this some time ago in Porthcawl (no, don't go there). I was scouring the sea-front - a blasted wind-swept spit of sand with a sewer outlet - for social-realism shots of single-mother-sheep picking through the detritus that is the post-industrial society, looking for lumps of coal to sell for a meagre profit. Couldn't see any on this day, but the Council (Gawd bless 'em) tired no doubt of spending money on glue-sniffing-addict-outreach schemes, had decided to splash the cash on this ultra-chic post-modernist bench. Some oik was squatting on it cursing his meagre GP-ration of Methadone, so I got the wife to flash her fangs (it was getting dark) and I managed to grab this shot before hell decended once again over the glorious land we call Wales.
I can't recall how I did the BW conversion.
