    Pollen Hunters (Macro)

Had a day off today so I've been in the garden with a few peach ciders and my camera, chasing some sort of bees about. (At least I think they are bees, can anyone confirm?)

    Hello Matt
"deeply involved" bee I would call your pictures. For what I know they are bees (hairy, round body; wasps would be "stretched". slender and hairless).
A nice document of their behavior.

I don't appreciate this style of photography, so I'll only comment on the following:

That's far better than them chasing you.

Yes bees; you can just see the elbowed antennae.

These little solitary living bees are very difficult to identify but being on dandilions at this time of the year would suggest one of the Lasioglossum species to me. No common name for them.

Always looks good if you can get a full face angle but I know from experience just how difficult that is to actually achieve so I'm not complaining about what you have shot.

I would concur with Geoff. Honey bees are hairier (though nothing like as hairy as bumble-bees).

Very nice set Matt, he certainly seems well engrossed in his work. Good image quality as well.

Thanks everyone, Geoff I tried all day to get a head on shot, but they seemed to turn their back on me!

    The cider wasn't helping either!

Good shots of a busy bee, Matt...I am with Geoff and Grahame...they are both expert macro-ist.
