Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
That is a superior image Jeff, composition is great, as is the range of focus.
Were I to nitpick...would like to see it moodier, maybe introduce more contrast and drop the
highlights about 10%.

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Do you not just love it when you get a great sky, the sun peeks through the clouds and throws a billion watts of light on the subject and it all lines up. What a joyous occasion that is and you got it all. Now I like chauncey am going to also nitpick, bringing down the highlights some will help bring out some more detail in the tower of the lighthouse. The second item is the rocky shoreline in the foreground, they are too bright, my eyes want to be drawn to them taking them away from the main story of the image. Maybe lowering that area by 1-stop but only that rocky area, not those areas that are getting hit full blast by the sun. I tried that here and to me it brought more punch to the main story of the buildings and sky. Only my way of thinking.

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Hello Jeff
a good picture, impressing sight - but I dare to add: the lighthouse is still on the edge of falling into the sea as in the last of your posts I saw - maybe it is?

I don't understand what you are trying to say?? Is it supposed to be a joke? Or a criticism? Please clarify.

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Hello Jeff
No joke from me. If I look at the picture; the light house is "leaning" to the right, this is disturbing MY eyes expecting the light house to stand upright. Just what I see - no offense given.
Maybe you wanted the expression, that the light house and the building are leaning/preparing against/for the oncoming rainstorm?

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Erwin just took Jeff's image into ACR checked the horizon straight, looked at the fence posts all vertical, maybe it is just your eyes that are playing tricks.

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Hi again Jeff I don't know what lens you used to shoot the image but if it is a wide angle lens, sometimes you get some parts tilted in the frame. You might have shot this image holding your camera slightly downward and that's why the lighthouse might look a bit tilted although the horizon is levelled and fence posts are vertical. If you have ACR , please open your image in ACR and go to the lens corrections, adjust the verticals something like -11, then you will see the difference

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
The photo was shot on a Nikon D810 to a NEF. (RAW file) with a Nikon 24-70 2.8 lens at 34mm, f3.5, shutter speed of 1/160 handheld, imported into LR5. Just for fun I went on ACR and adjusted the verticals -11 like you said and got this result:

Re: Rainstorm a Comin'
Very nice capture Jeff. Have you considered cropping a tad higher to eliminate the bright rock in the foreground and place more emphasis on the interplay between the lighthouse and the sky and less on the competing foreground?
