A very beautiful photo to commemorate a great loss.
Does this image represent final closure for you, Jon??? It sure did to me if this is mine...
Very poignant, Jon. Can I suggest a bit of sharpening, just on the middle part of the handle....
I find it interesting of how I can see a hundred old handles but none so graciously exposed as the ones with a story like yours.
Well done Jon and may your Dad continue to patina your heart as his hands did with this handle.
Jon, very nice photographs. Sorry for your loss.
Bruce
The colour image is a 'nice' image. The colours in it are beautiful. But, for me, it certainly doesn't have the 'punch' or the starkness of the B & W.
I feel your loss, Jon...the emptiness...it hurts.
Anyway, moving on...Although I like the colour version, I prefer the subtleness and the tone of the Black and White. I am not a B/W expert yet but that one has more appeal to my eyes than the coloured one.
Well, this is a different image to the first one. The first uses tone and texture: this one is more complex as it employs colour as well - and being less 'stark' than the first, it tells a different story.
One thing that bothers me, Jon is the right hand side - it seems too smooth compared to the texture in the timber in the rest of the door. I would prefer the right hand side to be cropped similarly to the original b&w.
I like the colours in this edit. There is a warm blue on the left and a subtle yellow on the right with a rich rusty brown in the middle. But for me (and I am certainly no expert) the cool grays in the middle seem out of place. If it were mine I might try cropping more of the right hand side to remove the yellow tones - then the grays might marry in with the blues on the left - or play with hues and curves to introduce some yellow into those timbers in the middle. Just a thought.
Good one, I liked it.
The black and white is the better presentation. Sorry for your loss.
