Fiddlehead Ferns
I love watching how the woodland flora emerges in the spring!
Especially I enjoy watching the fiddlehead ferns unfold.
Here are two examples.
1.
2.
Kodiak offered some suggestions for rendition.
Your C&C welcome.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
I particularly like #1, I'd maybe crop a little from the top though.

Pretty, Marie. I like them both - these are appealing subjects and I think you came up with two nice solutions.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
As Steve said, I would crop #1. And the highlights in the background are a bit bright in #2. Maybe a bit of a crop from the right side plus toning down the highlights a little?

Very nice images Marie I find the BG in #2 a bit too brigth , I think you can fix it with PP.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
Hi, Steve,
I would consider cropping, but certainly not much at all (the top 20% at the most). I loved the lines of the fern - so upright and elegant!

Hey, Mark!
How are you?
I love watching the fiddlehead ferns unfold. Their colors are uniquely spring-like.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
Dear Geoff,
I do agree that the highlights are a bit bright in #2 - a definate flaw. I have already PP'ed this image to try to tone the bright areas down. I disagree about cropping #2, though. The fern heads come over the 2/3 line of the picture as it is.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
Dear Binnur,
#2 is actually PPed as much as could be. During my lesson with my mentor, there was concern that it would start to look fake or artificial. If you would like to have a go? Please feel free.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
I particularly like the lighting in #1. As a consequence, I lthink the composition is enhanced by the negative space at the top.

Re: Fiddlehead Ferns
Dear JohnR,
My mentor, Kodiak, has taught me to look at a picture and assess what it needs and to appreciate the negative space. It is a place to relax, a place to put a sentiment or two. And. in the event that you want to print, you have a choice of sizes.
