    Pipa Beach - Monochrome

    Dear fellows,

Here is an image of Pipa Beach. I shot it from the top of a cliff, showing the beach at the far end. I chose the Monochrome approach mainly due to the drama caused by the heavy sky over the beach at the moment I shot it. Your C&C are welcomed, as always. Thanks for viewing.

Hi Otavio, very nice image and it looks much better in lightbox Those things on the water look a bit crisp but it can be fixed easly in PP. Dramatic clouds indeed.

It looks like a nice scene, but I find the B&W conversion a bit "too busy". Often a B&W conversion is done to simplify a shot that is "too busy". There is so much going on in the shot, that I can't seem to focus on anything in particular. I suspect this is related to the conversion process you chose.

In this case, I wonder if the colour original might not have been a stronger image.

Hi, Manfred. Thanks for your feedback. I do agree it is a "busy" scene and maybe the color version really works better. I included it below. Regards,

I like the treatment of the sky, the foreground has good elements that put extra emphasis on the sky. The coastline and horizon are the only qualities present regarding the waterway; the remainder of the water seems drab and I would either try to bring out detail in the surf and perhaps lighten the tone of the water and sky above. Nice composition.

    Otavio,

The color version does work better, however the section above the water still needs a bit of brightening.

Hi, Matt. Thanks for your feedback. It really seems the colour version won the monochrome one.

It's a beautiful scene. I find that amazing sky - as though mother nature HDR'd it - so much so as for this to be for me an image of sky with beach, rather than beach with sky.
