Another nice shot, but perhaps a bit less effective than your previous posting.

Yes, the face, hair and beard are still here, but somehow the background seems more distracting. It's so bright, it pulls my eyes more than the figure does. I wonder if just cropping most of it out might not result in a stronger image?

    Thanks Manfred.

What if I tried blurring the background a little more, reducing the highlights in just the background then backing off the saturation also in the background only.

This is the result, what do you think?

I really like this shot, but I like the other one better...why do these people wear sacks? +1 to Barbara's comment..

My thoughts also Graham. The second version is better but that white strip level with his mouth is still quite prominent. If you are working this on two layers, you might pick up some of the ochre colour with the paint brush tool and colour the bright areas in, adjusting the opacity to suit, plus a bit more blur perhaps.

Apparently they only do it when they're doing some kind of penance. Normally they wear dark brown monks habits made from something that looks like wool.

Graham - I was thinking of an even more severe crop, more along these lines.

    Same Guy, Different Angle

The background isn't helping the shot, so get rid of most of it.

Hi Graham , I like your second version and +1 to John (john2)'s comment. I also like Manfred's crop but your version conveys the feeling that 'the man is talking to someone in front of him' better.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and suggestions.

I do like the crop Manfred. I was a bit worried about whether it would make him look too confined but it doesn't really. Will keep copies of both versions.

Totally different presentation, in the first he had a holy look to him, in this capture he seems ordinary; even helpless.
