Fotheringhay is probably better known (or maybe obscurely remembered from History lessons in English schools) as being a place that was home to a castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and beheaded in the late 16th century.
The castle was levelled around 100 years later with only the motte remaining, but there's quite a grand church in the small village overlooking the river Nene.
I've kept this first draft processed image plain, but it's going to be one of those shots where I'll probably have to revisit many times before I get the look I'm after:

Very nice composition. IMO the image would look very nice in color if B&W is not your strict decision

A nicely balanced composition but I wonder about having slightly less sky?
Focus and exposure are perfect.

This is really wonderful. IMO it is better in B&W, although it would have been also nice in colour.

Thanks guys - I'll be working on the shot this week. There's some detail in the sky to bring out but I don't want to over-do things.
It was shot in the early morning just as the fog was clearing from the river. So the sky was very pale and the colours quite muted and pastel. Definitely worth a revisit during the summer season as the colours change
