    Rearding flash with phottix ares

A set of Phottix Ares, 1 transmitter to be attached on the camera and 1 receiver to which the flashlight is attached, is sold on Amazon. I'd like to get it, but what I need to know is: if the flash attached to the receiver is set on master, will it still trigger a slave?

And, I have a Nikon and two Metz flashlights. Wil these all work with the Phottix?

    Hi Lucas,

Since the Phottix Ares are a simple, no whistles, no bells single pin trigger, you should have no worries about compatibility with any of your flashes or your camera. The Ares should trigger your flash. There will be no control from the camera, no ttl communication, or anything other than a straight firing signal. You will have to adjust your flash manually, fire them in manual mode, meaning walk over to it and make the adjustment.

As far as whether your flash will operate in commander mode I couldn’t say with 100% certainty but I would think it would. I don’t have Nikon gear and I don’t use optical or built-in triggering so I may not be the best one to address this. I don’t know why you wouldn’t get a receiver for each flash you want to fire and fire them all with the triggers.

I do, however, use Phottix triggers, although a different model. I have had great luck emailing Phottix to get any answers I needed in the past and this may be something to consider to get answers to your question regarding Commander/Slave firing with their triggers.

Do you use the phottix Aion? That's another one I seem to be able to get in Germany. Do you know about this model?

And yes, I might get another receiver, but I am trying to keep it simple - and I am averse to spending useless money, even though in question are only about 30 €.

Understandable Lucas. Just keep in mind the Ares are not compatible with other Phottix triggers. So if you ever want to upgrade or expand with ttl or triggers with other features in the Phottix line these will not work with them. If all you want is basic manual triggering, however, these will do it.

Yes I do Lucas. And I use it a lot in the studio. 1000’s of firings.

I haven’t really used it outside a studio setting so I really haven’t put it to the test as far as firing distances are concerned. But I can say that it has performed flawlessly for the purposes I use it and I am very happy with it.
