A (not very) old banger C&C welcome

    Hi,

Yesterday, I went down to the annual classic car show at the local Elizabethan manor house (as you do). There must have been a couple of hundred cars there from Ferraris to Deux Chevaux. Not my usual style, so I thought I'd try a few. This is not as old as it might appear - a Panther Kallista (I think) built around 1999. Comments welcome

Nice capture and conversion. You really have to get inventive when photographing auto shows, a great way to learn how to work the scene.

IMO B&W works better , the colors and the hood look distracting in the color image

I have to vote for the color version.

Love the contrast with the purple and white/cream.

Colour version for me. I like everything that I see including the colour and the green chair at the background. Man o man...that engine got a good cleaning before the exhibition, didn't it? I should take some tips from your shots before we go to Bowling Green for the Corvette museum tour..

Oh btw, when I saw your title I thought I will be seeing some sausages on the bar-b, not cars...

I am a fan of the B/W, although not as old as it seems the conversion gives more of the illusion of age.

I love the shot but not the black and white conversion. The colors are rather rich and interesting and some of the details need to be addressed in the converted black and white like the little yellow and orange hues seem to have diminished in contrast on the conversion.

Regardless, a great photo. I shot at a car show not long ago and realize that the owners are just as proud of what's under the hood as they are of the exterior, albeit, I would of loved to have seen your frame with the hood down.

I'd like to shoot that thing up with a marco lens.

    Thanks for sharing Dave!

Nice shot and conversion if that's what you're into.
If I'd been shooting this I would have backed up further to include the top of the hood, then cropped it later to get the sides where they are now. I also would have bent my knees a little more to get a more straight on look at the lights.
I'd like to see more of the classics that were present too.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

As to colour or b&w. Very interesting that there are view both ways. I couldn't decide and I think they are just two different images - I like the colours, and again the detail that comes out in the b&w.

Yes, difficult to select the best perspective. The knees aren't quite so flexible nowadays - but the flippy screen on the gx7 certainly was handy. I could post a couple more

I would of loved to have seen your frame with the hood down.
Can't quite oblige, but here is the whole thing:

Dave, next time, since the owner is sitting right there, ask to have the hood lowered for a pic.
I've shown a car or two at things like this and it's always flattering to be asked for a picture of my car to be taken.
I'm sure he would have been more than willing to oblige you.
Thanks for sharing the overall shot.

I prefer the colour Dave and I'll call the bonnet a bonnet and say that I also would have liked to see all of it even though it no doubt would have required two shots and a stitched panorama. It's also nice to see the deux chevaux and DS Citroens in the background.

Is that a blue and a cream version in the background? The two tone is striking in comparison.

Hello, David. Both images work great, IMO. Very nice captures of a beautiful machine!

Absolutely agree - the picture comes together in B&W.

Colour for me. Green grass makes a far better background than grey grass and contrasts well with the maroon of the car.

Thanks for all the feedback. Interesting that there really seems to be a split opinion on colour vs b&w.

Is that a blue and a cream version in the background?
Yes, I think so. The banner that you can see in the third photo reads "Panther Motor Club" - there were maybe half a dozen there.

you could buy a Panther Kallista for around gbp 10,000 (though I don't think the one in shot). That sounds a reasonable price to me.

A chap down the street has a DS on his drive (pronounced deesse of course, sorry can't do the accent on my keyboard!)

I vote for the colour. I also vote for a second shot from the front side to show what looks like a classic three wheeler?
