Your treatment of the shadows is what is typically done, let them go black; when photographing during midday. I like the flickers of highlights but surprised you could limit the light tones so much. Did you use flash as well?
I like your use of the light. The adage that harsh light is bad is often true but sometimes it's an advantage. You used the light to your advantage.
Kim, you tell a classic story with this photo. "The Beauty and the Beast" Like an abandoned garden overgrown with weeds, this regal architectural detail is overgrown with graffiti and garbage. A powerful and masterful handling of the light in PP. Brava!
Hi Kim, nice image I think I saw a shot of yours in the same place before but that one was in color , B&W works nice too.
Dear Kim,
I like the treatment.
very dramatic
grunge in its best clothes.
Marie
Very nice shot, Kim...I like it.
Lovely shot!
Sorry for the slow response. I retired from Corp America last week (early at 52) -- figuring out what the next chapter will be. Plan to focus on photography for a year and then make some decisions. I had promised myself when I was no longer working at a Corp job we would get a puppy and yesterday, I took a long trip to pick her up. She's a Standard Poodle -- I'll be sharing pictures - she's black so I will have some challenges ;-)
Mike - thanks for your comment. Learned in this session that I have to respect the kind of light I have... and work with it to make whatever subject as attractive as possible. This subject was rather ordinary, but I likes the lines and textures.
Richard - I like images that tell a story of desolation. Credit for PP goes to my mentor...he significantly helped me on this one.
Binnur - this is a newer location. I haven't been able to go back to the one you are thinking as it's gotten a little too creepy/risky for me. Thanks for commenting :-)
Marie - grunge to the max! Thanks for looking and commenting.
Izzie - thanks for always being so kind to comment -- appreciate it.
Barbara - thank you.
The conversion to B&W is a wise choice when faced with harsh lighting.
Hello, Kim. I liked the way you used the light here. Although not under the most proper time of the day, you managed to nail a very good result, IMO. Well done!
