bumblebee launching herself from an azalea
Finally, a bug! I have had my bug gear sitting out for weeks, with no luck. First, very few bugs. Then finally some bumblebees, miner bees, honeybees, and sweat bees, but they were in a huge azalea bush, and I just couldn't get anything worth keeping. Finally I caught a bumblebee launching herself backwards from an azalea blossom. Not an ideal shot, but I couldn't resist posting now that I have something. 100mm macro, no tubes, diffused flash, 1/125, f/13 (Canon), ISO 400. C&C welcome.

Hi Dan,
glad you got going. It's cooled down over here and there are pretty high winds so little doing... Good hunting!

Re: bumblebee launching herself from an azalea
thanks, all. Izzie, I did dodge the head. One of the several reasons why bumblebees make tough subjects is that their heads and eyes are so dark relative to the rest of the frame. As it was, in addition to dodging the head, I had to severely burn the flower petals. I first pulled the luminance of that color channel all the way down in lightroom, and then I burned further in photoshop. So, not a great photo, but at least I captured her takeoff.
