A Century Plus
I'm told this little church which sits on First Nation Land along
the hi way, is well over 100 years old. Being deemed structurally
unsafe, it does host a lovely background in both morning light and
evenings when there's menacing clouds in the west.
CC always appreciated.

Re: A Century Plus
Nice shot Irene. I really like the B/W conversion best seems to fit the age of the building.

Re: A Century Plus
A nice capture Irene. It looks like the church on the reserve in Ft Langley.

Re: A Century Plus
Both very nice Irene. I think I might give a little more space at the top to let the steeple rise.

Re: A Century Plus
Well composed image Irene, well done. I to am of the opinion that the subject suits the B/W conversion. Like Jim I would liked to see a little more headroom for the church steeple. But it's no big deal IYSWIM.
If you can't revisit it may be worthwhile trying to extend the canvas which can be achieved in Photoshop and I expect in other photo editing software.

Thank Barbara, Rita, Jim, Peter, Izzie, Binnur, Dave and John.
Your feedback is much appreciated and encouraging.
Jim and Peter, I agree, more headspace would enhance the image.

Re: A Century Plus
A lovely building in a lovely setting. Well captured. I get the impression that the building is listing to the left. Is that why it is deemed structurally unsound?

Thank you John. All I know is that it was unusable.

Re: A Century Plus
Great shot Irene. While I'm more or less on the same page with respect to your framing, there is no doubt in my mind that the colour version blows away the black & white, The blues and greens that give the image so much character are lost once you convert the monochrome and throw away all those lovely tones your camera has captured.
To me, monochrome is just another compositional tool that can be applied to an image, and giving something a period look or simplifying the shot are both legitimate reasons to use this technique. I use it when I feel that doing so will give me a stronger image. I'm not convinced that this is the case here and suggest you've lost more than you've gained in the conversion.

Re: A Century Plus
I so appreciate your comment Manfred. It has made me go back and study the image anew- giving attention to the points you make re: framing, colour, and character. Thank you .
