Does Canon firmware update reset camera to defaults?

Apparently a 7D mk II firmware update is about to be released, and I'm wondering if updating my camera is going to completely reset the camera settings to default. requiring me to go through all of the menus and put things back to how they are currently. Anyone know? Thanks

It won't default. Your camera settings won't change.

Jim is right. It has not before on any of mine so should be the same with the 7D2.

Looking at the 7D Mk 1 and note the following

Download Firmware Version 2.0.5 for the EOS 7D.

    NOTE:
When updating the firmware of your camera, please first review the instructions thoroughly before you download the firmware.

-When the camera is updated to Firmware Version 2.0.5, the following settings will be automatically reset.
    a) Date/Time setting
    b) Lens peripheral illumination correction data registered to the camera

-The Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E5A must be running Firmware Version 1.0.7 in order to be used with the EOS 7D camera running Firmware Version 2.0.5.

so can't say that there will not be changes

Re: Does Canon firmware update reset camera to defaults?

Thank you all for your replies. Please note another thread where I've posted an update today regarding potential 7d2 camera lockups after updating firmware to 1.0.4 .. Canon 7D mk II firmware update 1.0.4 available

Some people have suggested that, after updating, it is wise to manually reset the camera completely to the defaults, as it may reduce the chance of lockups.

I'm not going to update my camera until the NEXT firmware update, since I am currently not experiencing any of the issues that this 1.0.4 is meant to correct. I've also not had any of the other supposed AF issues that some people have reported with this camera. Both of my 7d2's work great.

    Thanks again

Does the 7D mkII not allow you to save all of your settings to a memory card so you can then automatically reload the settings? The reason I ask is is that Nikon's D7xxx series provides that capability and the D7000 was released September 2010.

I have updated and none of the settings have changed.

As silly as it seems, Canon has not added such a simple and useful feature to their consumer / prosumer cameras. I believe the feature is available on their flagship 1dx, a $5000 body.

Were you experiencing any of the bugs that were supposedly fixed by this update, and/or were you experiencing any other issues that were not listed in the notes for the update? Just curious what specifically you were hoping to get from the update, if anything. Thanks for posting your experience.

Re: Does Canon firmware update reset camera to defaults?

Matt - I have not had it long enough to test everything so no I don't think I had those "rare" problems. I updated hoping that the aberration correction setting would actually fix the "not data available" message for the 100-400 Mk 2, but it did not.

They do not specifically mention that the update cannot be rolled back (the new ones for the 5D3 and 1Dx do) so will just roll back if there is an issue. Doubt if there will be as I never experienced any post-update problem with any of the other bodies.

Note that all new sales will be updated to the latest firmware before it is sold. At least that is my experience.
