    Glendalough

Less than an hour's drive from my home this is one of the tourist hot-spots in County Wicklow, Ireland, mainly because the landscape is significantly more dramatic than the norm in this area. This was a brief trip, and not principally for photography. The weather was mixed with an uncomfortably strong wind racing down through the long deep glaciated valley. Broken clouds and richness of greens due to rain added greatly to the compositions.

These are three samples including a six exposure stitched panoramic (using Photoshop CS6 Photomerge with a little intervention).

I plan to re-visit this venue soon, as I have in the past, for a longer hike specifically to capture more of this wonderful landscape.

Hi Neville Very nice images. I would bring out details a bit in the clouds in #1 and #3 if they were mine. May I ask what the blue patches at the upper part of the frame in #2 are ?

Looks like a very nice place to hike...I like all of them...I can just see myself savouring the smell of the place...forgetting that I went there to catch some memories...

    Many thanks everybody.
Binnur, the blue patches in no.2 are just blue sky between clouds.
Izzie, the hiking around here is great and in particular a steep climb through the mixed woodland up the right side of no.1, followed by a walk around the rim of the steep side of the mountain with spectacular views. Then. a slow descent following the river and waterfall down to the lake and a leisurely walk alongside the lake under tall pines. Roughly 2.5 hours if you don't stop to take too many photos.
One of my favourite places. For those interested, Glendalough is also the site of an early Christian monastic settlement founded by Saint Kevin in the 7th.Century and was a very significant centre of learning for centuries.

Thank you Jim. It's a great place to photograph when the weather co-operates. At this time of year the leaves on deciduous trees are new and the colour is very rich especially after rain and in bright sunlight.

    Hi Neville

These are beautiful photographs of a lovely spot. We visited there a few years ago (taking in Avoca of course like all the other tourists!).

I could have spent more time in Glendalough.

This place must be beautiful in the Fall...did you find any Leprechauns while there? I used to love reading about them.

Many thanks Dave. It's nice when you visit a place and wish you could have seen more. Maybe someday!
