    Hydrangea

Several years ago I got a couple of hydrangea plant clippings from my neighbor. I was able to root these and then transferred them to one of my flower beds. After a couple of years growing, I am finally getting the results I wanted.

As far as I know they like shadowy areas to grow better. Very nice shots, I especially like the last one with nice colors and details John

Thank you Binnur for the tip on where they should grow...And John...I like the colours of this one and on the technical side, very pretty subtle pink and purple...Now, I must find a neighbour who is willing to give me a cutting of this....

I like the 3rd shot, John, that really shows what hydrangeas are about. I think they like wet conditions. At least, that is where they are growing in the local botanic gardens - shady and wet. You can make them produce blue (or yellow?) flowers by applying certain 'fertilisers'.

Thank you everyone for your comments. The hydrangeas do like shadey and moist/damp areas. If the soil pH is slightly acidic, the flowers will be blue; red/pink flowers are when the soil pH is alkaline. My soil is mostly clay, so it's "natural" pH is in the alkaline range.

    Re: Hydrangea

Hmmm... that is another new one to take into consideration John...some of my soil are clay-ist down below but when I do plant some plants and I want it acidic I mix some ashes that came from our firepit...I find that my flowers are more pronounced on Coopers' and Tucker's memorial graves which I painstakingly did this spring. I will surely want a hydrangeas on the side of my deck near the deck to brighten up that moist area instead of the usual native strawberries we are grinning and bearing there...Thank you so much for this tip...I love gardening....
