What can I say...I like flowers...would clone the yellow tulips and white distant spots.

Nice. I agree with Chauncey. Might also crop a bit from the top.

I removed the white bits and most of the yellow bulbs, used Brian's crop suggestion.

sometimes I just find it easier to do a little editing than a lot of typing.

John..with flowers, birds and insects, I find that using aspect ratio cropping helps with how close do you want to view your subject better, pretty much what Brian did...When I did my birdie shots, I learned about aspect ratio cropping...then using the rules of third or rule of 5th and/or the 9-grid should be pretty much #2 in your workflow. Just my thoughts here.

Moving on...I like red...and these are the reddish red tulips I have ever seen. Also, is your area so cold still that your tulips are just beginning to look nicer in your part of the world? Manfred also just uploaded some tulip shots from the tulip festival over his way...so I thought it must be the weather...tulips are planted before the frost sets in (or put in the fridge for quite a bit before planting) and comes out in Spring. (and I am babbling away here on a topic you might already know.....sorry...)

    Hi Izzie,

Thanks for commenting. We just recently had a cold snap and have also had frequent occasions of fog, so both could have something to do with the late vibrancy of the bulbs. I pass by this scene daily but usually it's still dark; so I didn't notice if they'd bloomed earlier.

Regarding the crop factor, I considered the rule of thirds when making the crop, first thing I thought about was "did a crop tend to center the flowers", my first attempt did so I left in some of the upper foliage. I only had a prime lens with me when I took the shot and directly below what you see here was a brick wall. The bulbs were slightly below my eye level and I was positioned directly against the wall to get this much in frame. I took other shots from another position where I tried to get closer.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi John, the crop looks good, nice flowers with lovely colors If the image was mine I would crop most of the blurred green part from the top though.

I love the colours. The crop is better but maybe emphasizes the twigs too much?

    Kaye,

Thanks for the comments, I did consider cloning those out but liked the warmth and direction it added. I know when I look at flower images I stop at the flower, hopefully the viewers eyes are pulled a bit in each direction and come back to the flowers.
