    Hiking / Rucksack / Camera

I'm going on a couple of days hike/camping and plan to take my camera with me. My camera bag is not big enough for all my gear obviously and my hiking rucksack doesn't really have any compartments for my lens etc.

Is there a product out there that works as sort of an "add-on" to a rucksack?

Lowepro makes a backpack with a camera compartment in two sizes.

Here is the 16L (L is approximate volume in liters)

    The 20L is slightly larger.

    Matt,
How much camera equipment? What about lens bags or cases in with other gear?

    Hi Dean,

I've already got a Manfroto backpack which holds about 16l.

But I will be taking a 70l rucksack to carry a tent, sleeping bag etc. So wanted something that attaches or slots into that.

Matt, look at Domke compartment or individual inserts...they are and can be use in ordinary handbags for women and backpacks...

Similar to the Domke, I use the Tenba BYOB when I'm hiking and biking. I usually use a variety of accommodations when on the bike, some nights camping, some nights in cabins, some in hotels when in town. The Tenba fits into the hard saddlebag on the bike to give protection, but is then also easy to transfer into my daypack when hiking away from the bike or, with it's zip top and handle, to just carry into a cabin or hotel. Also fits into my carry-on if I'm jumping on a plane.

Or…F-stop sell inserts. I use these for mountain trekking (and also an F stop back pack which is very good indeed). Here are the inserts: http://shop.fstopgear.com/us/product/icu.html

Highly recommended. I slipped about 30metres (110 feet) down a ravine in Japan (a big slide rather than a fall) on shale and rock. No damage at all to ruck sack or anything in it apart from a scuffed strap on the outside of the bag. I was amazed. The inserts are very tough and practical and could be used in any bag. The advantage of the F-stop bags is accessibility. Otherwise they are just like any climbing bag really.
