    At a crawl

Not near as elusive as the birds, this Western Painted Turtle did not mind
company as it inched it's way to the water's edge.

    CC always appreciated.

Very, very nice, Irene...Turtles are easy to photograph than birds...but I wasn't successful in my last one because the birds took precedence at the time...I forgot the turtle. So this is how painted turtles look in close up...interesting...

    Very nice Irene, wonderful colours.
This is my type of subject, slow moving, lots of time to setup the shot

    Re: At a crawl

Thank you Izzie. This one was easy enough to approach as it was on a foot path.

Hi Irene Very nice coloured turtle. I would desaturate and blur the green part a bit to make the turtle stand out more . I would also sharpen the image with some radius to add some structure .

Nice shot, although I find it hard to believe that this turtle is crawling along as it has retracted its legs under its shell.

The background is a bit noisy so I would probably use a little bit of selective noise reduction; or simply go over that area with a light blur brush. Otherwise, a nice interesting scene.

Binnur, thank you ok for the suggestions. I will make those changes.

    Thank you Manfred. Very observant.

Thank you Geoff, I will blur the background as both you and Binnur have suggested.

    Re: At a crawl

Just a note on composition, Irene: I notice the line of the turtle's head follows the line separating the rocks from the greenery, without really breaking it, which makes it harder for the viewer's eye to isolate the turtle's head without you going to some extra effort to help it. Also, the line between the rocks and the greenery is like a horizon line, and it can sometimes spoil a composition when the top of your subject exactly hits that line. That isn't so much the case here, as the body of the turtle bridges the area above and below the "horizon", but I just thought I would point it out as I have been looking at an otherwise nice shot of my own that is spoiled for that very reason (top of subject's head hitting horizon line rather than above or below).

Thank you Janis. I truly appreciate you pointing that out. Definitely something
    to watch for in future.
