Your images made me smile John, they are so lovely IMO you need to be a bit more careful when selecting the blurred area in #1, the edges of it don't look very neat.Apart from that the image looks great and cute. I would crop #2 from the top and from the RHS because the dark parts distract. So a tighter crop might work better.

A fun presentation. I like the first best because the light is rather harsh in the second. I agree with Binnur about your edges. I'm not sure artificial blurring of the background was necessary to that extent but if you are going to do it, consider also the triangular area between the rock and the squirrel. Looks like your shutter speed may have been a bit low which may have caused the slight blurring of the head. It's an entertaining shot!
This is a Golden Mantled Ground Squirrel, by the way. They are plentiful at my house in Colorado and fun to watch and photograph.
