Interesting shot, John. I'm wondering why, given the title, you didn't give us the whole shadow. Would this be a good candidate for a b&w conversion, do you think? If so, I'd love to see a mono version.

    Hi Janis,

Good point, fact is the title came as an after thought during processing. Thanks for commenting, look for mono version soon.

Oh yes, I think I prefer the mono. I also like the second shot, where we see more of the dancer's face and her smile. I am curious; what's the context?

She is part of an aerialist troupe. This particular photo was taken during the third section of the act; which consisted of comedy, preparation (her and her partner constructed the elevated platform), and the feats of gravity defying maneuvers. Thanks for the comments.

Hi John I would like to see the whole shadow too. What about a crop like this?

    Hi Binnur,

Very nice, you didn't like the dangling rope I suppose? Thanks for comments and suggestion.

No John, I didn't like the rope and I wanted to put the dancer off center

Well seen captures John but this is the better shot for me. I prefer to see her face and as Janice says, the full shadow plus in the original, her legs look a bit foreshortened (perhaps they were?).

    Hi John,

Thanks for commenting and observation. I was standing about twelve feet above the dancer when this shot was taken.

I also noticed the foreshortened legs but I do not know the word to describe it...what causes that?

    Hi Izzie

It's not a bad thing, painters have used foreshortening for centuries to help simulate 3 dimensionality in their works. It's not so much a cause as it is a reality, when viewed from a high or low angle the extremities are seen as receding into the background. When captured by camera it can look very odd.
