Thread: Post your minimalist images here

    Post your minimalist images here

Post your minimalist shots here. What is minimalism? It generally implies anything which is spare or stripped to its essentials. By so doing you are forced to concentrate on it's core content, without any of the frippery or embellishments. Composition plays an important part in a minimalist shot, so it's good practise.

No rules - as many as you like. By posting a shot here you are signing up to C&C, unless you state otherwise..

    Water is running out

This is called "Water is running out" and is meant to remind you that the shortage of water is becoming a major problem in the world. Unfortunately, I had to waste quite a lot of water to get this shot, but that's art for you!

    Cold, So Cold

    OK Rob,

I've just shot a couple just for you. The first I'll call "Cold, so cold" because it's winter here now, and many people have their fires going. Some may argue that open fires aren't very environmentally friendly, but in my opinion, you just can't beat an open fire (not that I actually have one by the way!).

    PrimeAir 237, Cleared to Land

And as I was outside freezing my fingers off, feeling (and looking) like a voyeur - what was probably the final flight into the local airport for the night flew overhead - so I had to take a quick stab at the exposure.

Well, you can try, but the sparks go everywhere, so you risk setting something alight unintentionally and/or burning yourself.

(Don't try this at home folks)

    Good idea Rob,

I promise I'll put something here myself to make up for the above post

Both your shots are excellent. I particularly like 'cold' - it looks very surreal. Both shots have great composition,

Did you use a filter to slow the shutter down? Well done, and thanks for playing the latest game.

    Thanks Rob,

In fact I was struggling to get a good exposure - with smoke you generally don't want an exposure to last more than about a second or the smoke starts to look like a raging hurricane (like it's starting to here) but I was maxed out @ F2.8 & ISO 3200 - so had to settle with 2.5 second exposure and under-exposing by 1 stop (a regular exposure would have "upped the huricane" and under-exposing any more at 3200 ISO to shorten the exposure would have given too much noise. An EF200mm F1.2L IS USM would have done the job however

Rob, yet another good idea for a thread and Colin and yourself have set the pace fine style. Unless you subscribe to Ideal Home minimalism is subjective so some of my images may be pushing the category a bit. Until I can remove my company accounts from my brain I will be pushed for inspiration so I have posted some reframed oldies...well not that old

    Steve

I was a little dubious about starting this thread this morning. I can see now that those doubts were unfounded. Some cracking images so far! Yours are excellent - really top-notch in my book. I love the colours and abstract compositions. I think the standard of photography on this forum is going one way. Up.

PS Just one point. I think with the art card ones, it's better not to say what they are. When I read the text I could see them in a different way, which was not as good. Keep the mystery there?

    Re: Finishing Nail

I like "water," "cold," and "galvanized" the best so far, I think, but all are good shots, very thoughtful. Great idea, Rob.

I agree: great shot, Steve - perfect composition, with the space on the right for the point of focus for the lens. The steps of the lens and the knurled ridges draw your eye out there into the blank space, then you come back for more details. Very nice.

    Cheers,
    Rick

BTW that's not noise, it's dust. The camera shows everything It's old but I thought I had it all cleaned up.
