    two more ant faces

Did a few more ants on peonies this afternoon. Still finding them tough. Single shots, 100mm macro, 36mm extension. C& C welcome, of course

Obvious change in camera settings, which do you prefer?

I like the second one Dan...the hair on its lower back is much clearer...Even the look of the second one is more meaner...

Thanks, all. John, same settings for both: ISO 400, 1/125, f/16, diffused flash. f/16 is a little small; I usually shoot f/13, but these are deep. The high ISO is to give more weight to ambient light. I think they look different because of differences in postprocessing and the angle of the bugs (abdomen of the second was closer to the flash).

Abdomen had me fooled, I thought you changed settings.

    Re: two more ant faces

This afternoon, I have been attempting to take a close-up of a rather lethargic ladybird larva. (Ladybug to some.) I used similar settings to you, Dan, but with nothing like the success you have had. I don't think any of mine will be keepers. I will have to persist.

Congratulations on an excellent pair of close-ups, especially #2.
