Why this effect, John? I was thinking along the line of your title as this image being converted to a subtle old style sepia or something but only with the girl and her partner here but the background with other people may not suit . I like the brolley and the pose of her leg... I like it for the story it tells...

Get rid of that blue bin on the left hand side of the image. That really has a negative impact on the look you seem to be trying for.

Nice attempt but I only tend to use filters like this when all else fails. I don't think this shot falls into that category.

However, the railings and bin in the first shot say 21st century to me rather than Victorian.

You have a pretty subject, but the PS conversion really falls short of its target and just screams "PS filter".

Your last shot highlights the fact that the subject would have happily posed for you. So personally I wouldn't have used PS filters and effects but would have tried a more appropriate pose and tried to capture as much as possible SOOC, maybe with a subtle sepia hint if you wanted it to have a period look?

Thanks for the comments, these images were taken on different days. The first was a more candid shot and the second was a split second posed shot. I did get a slightly more formal frontal shot on the first day, I'll try to post later. Thanks for the comments and critiques. I applied the filter on the first more for personal reasons, not that I felt the image failed completely, however I did feel that the background people would cause some issues with realism.
