    MONOCHROME Mini Competition #20

Since the aim of these is to get you taking and submitting photos, let see if it can also encourage people to post monochrome (black and white) images, even if that's not in their normal photography 'diet'.

    Here's how it works ...

    - You good folks post MONOCHROME images in the thread (please change your post title to a name for your picture)

    - When we get 10 images we will attach a voting poll

    - After 3 days the poll closes and the winner is declared!

    - If you would especially like some critique after the competition poll closes, please make it known in the post

    Too easy eh?

Limit of 1 image per post, and 2 image posts per person.

If there are already 10 in the current comp, please start a new thread in this forum

    Coins not accepted here

Near Tregaron, mid-Wales, in a very remote location. I met the postman there (post box near phone box) collecting mail.

Me: Collect much mail this week?
Postman: I had two letters on Tuesday...

    Gardening

Been intrigued lately by the various images of 'everyday' objects; e.g. in the kitchen, etc. So, took myself off to the garden shed.

I almost missed this yesterday. After finding nothing much of interest to photograph by the bay, I got back in the car, turned towards this old hotel and there it was... a snapshot of decades past. There is an antique car show in town this weekend, which would explain the presence of these vehicles. I tried some PP to give it an "older" look. C&C always welcome.

    Camera info:
    Canon 40D 1/250. f/13. ISO 400.
    Lit lens (EF 75-300 USM @ 155m)

Who exactly are 'they', I mean, are we talking aliens here? Perhaps you ought to leave off the science-fiction and read a few more photography books (Oooo! what a b***** cow you are, Rob). There again perhaps it's Dr Who's tardis and he'd had enough of Islay?

    History Lesson

Hi everyone! First post. This looks like fun!
She wanted to give me the history of a local attraction, so I asked her if I could take her picture while she talked. She talked a lot longer than I expected.

    MONOCHROME Mini Competition #20

    Nikon D90, ISO 200, f/2.2, 1/30s. Sigma 50mm f/1.4

    C&C always welcome.

Hi, Steve, and welcome to CiC. That's a good shot you posted, I like it a lot. It needs sharpening though, I think, and I notice the uploaded file is only 33k. If you create a resized file of about 200k, and sharpen it after you have resized it I think it will look much better. If you have the time you might want to do that, but, of course, it's up to you. Actually, you could try sharpening it before you resize it addition to after.

Hi Rob! Thanks for the tip. I let SmugMug do the resizing when I embedded a smaller version using their link. Might be the depth of field too.
I'll try resizing/sharpening myself and see how things turn out, but it will need to be after work

    Thanks again for the comments!

Hi Steve, Welcome to the CiC forums from me too, glad to have you along.

Rob's advice is spot on, for the record, it is rarely a good idea to let an online hosting site do any resizing of pictures for critical use (like here) because to them "bandwidth" (filesize multiplied by number of times downloaded) costs money, thus when they down-size they inevitably don't sharpen and they use a lower quality jpg to minimise costs (because of the small filesize).

You may find the 1,2,3.. process in this post useful (or you may know that already)
    Problems with image quality?

    Cheers,

You can vote for every one - except your own. The idea was to encourage people to take and post images. So, if you think 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 out of the 10 (your own excluded) are worthy of your vote, then you can do that.
