Front Street Bridge

Met up with some friends from Picton, in Belleville to shoot the Front Street Bridge which is now also call the Rainbow Bridge as it now has changing coloured lights. I was shooting with a 2-stop ND filter on for two reasons, one as I was shooting somewhat into the direction that the sun setting helped to lower the shutter speed, and as there was some wind causing the water to be, not as smooth as I wanted it to help with the colours on it.

Nice composition. It's one of those shots where you could have taken one exposure for the sky which looks great then another exposure a bit longer than your 2 stop filter allowed to get the water even softer. Then blend the two images in software.
But even so, the composition, light and colour look really good.

Yes Graham that can be done with certain images and not others. It works best when you have a well defined edge between the sky and the ground, but in this case it would be to hard to select the sky through the trees, bridge, street lights, radio tower and such. Much easier to use a 2-stop ND filter overall then hand hold a 2-stop reverse GND filter so that is just touches the top of the bridge. Because of the long exposure and hand holding the filter, it moves somewhat which helps to soften the edge where it touches the bridge. As it is late evening this makes it easier to get the effect more in camera than post.
