    On The Rocks (Monochrome)

I took this shot yesterday while crossing a river.

It was a really overcast day and the landscape lacked colour so I decided to go down the monochrome road.

Hi Matt IMO there is too much contrast and structure in the image and that's why the scene looks crowded with details. I would leave the water as is but reduce the contrast and structure on the rocks and plants.Nice composition.

+1 to Binnur's comment, Matt...it feels too crowded but the water effect is very, very good. I like it...

Matt I am going to be different, to strengthen the image I would suggest that you darken the upper half of the shot with a ND grad in LR or ACR by about 1.75 stops starting about the bottom of the light area at the top and ending just below that rock just right of centre. Then decrease the blacks, lighten the shadows, lower the highlights, then last darken the edges to draw you eyes into the centre.
Myself I like an image that has rich blacks and a strong contrast with whites.

    Cheers: Allan

Matt - I really like this moodiness image. I'm thinking in the same direction as Allan.

What bothers me is that bit of bright sky near the top. Content aware fill blows it away and puts in some nice texture. Then a fairly heavy vignette, and the character of the image changes quite nicely.

Hi Matt, I like the composition but the processing is not for me. Of course that is just a matter of personal taste as others have already stated that they like the edit. good work.
