is the Dell UP3214Q monitor worth looking at

I am purchasing a new monitor. I have a large workspace and can accommodate a 30 inch monitor. I would like any input regarding the Dell UP3214Q monitor other than the price.

Anandtech is one of my favourite computer tech review sites. It looks like they are not all that impressed....

Thank you for the reference. The article is dated 2014 and Dell seems to have fixed some of the issues. Im using it as a single monitor using windows 10.

Most consumers only consider a Dell monitor if they are purchasing the desktop computer and only then because of the bargain price you should get from the combined setup. Any solo monitor purchase should be done by analyzing comparable models.

John - the higher end Dell screens (not the ones bundled with a system), especially the higher end IPS models that are wide gamut (a high (99%) AdobeRGB compliance) have long been looked at as a cost effective solution for serious photo editing work. An Eizo with comparable specs would run at around twice as much money (the lower end Eizo units are sRGB only).

ASUS and Viewsonic have also been in this market segment and their prices have tended to be a bit higher than the Dells for comparable performance.

I have not looked at the 4K screens as this technology is still maturing; if my current 27" wide gamut Dell dies tomorrow, I would certainly get another screen that is at least 27" screen, but at this point might be tempted to stay with the standard 1920 x 1280 just because it would potentially be less problematic; drivers, graphics cards, etc.

On the other hand, if I wait another year or two, I suspect that I would be going 4K at 27" or larger.

    Manfred,

There are usually two or three target markets for monitors (graphics designers, gamers, and now it seems photographers). I receive a Dell catalogue routinely as I own an older laptop and I associate Dell products with a specific target market, rare to see anyone advocating one Dell component (the monitor) without them owning the other system gear. The other models you mentioned seem to control much larger market share.
