Downtown Ottawa Sunset Panorama - Large File!

This is a shot I've been meaning to get for a long time and finally had the time and conditions to do it.

This is an 11 shot panorama shot at an 80mm focal length of downtown Ottawa, Canada and shows some of the landmark buildings.as well as the entrance to Lock #1 of the Rideau Canal. The shot was taken about 10 minutes before sunset. It was taken from Nepean Point. If I were to print it full size it would be approximately 60 cm high and 230 cm long / 24in high / 90in long.

High quality work. The mayor of Ottawa (if there is one) would want this in his/her office. Downtown Ottawa Sunset Panorama - Large File!

Great shot Manfred, from a good vantage point and at the right time of day, with very good light and colour. It's such a good composition with the water "pulling everything together".

Wow, that's quite something Manfred, very high quality work.

Ideally a re-shoot when the restoration scaffolds are off several of the towers is indicated.

I have the same problem with Windsor Castle, there always seems to be part of it scaffold clad and under restoration - 'nature of the beast' I guess.

    Thanks Dave!

The scaffolding is restoration work being carried out on the Canadian Parliament buildings. It's a 21 year project that started in 2002, so we are getting there. I believe most of the highly visible work will be completed by 2017, in time for Canada's 150th birthday. I expect some good photo ops in 2017...

    Error Correction:
I had a senior's moment when I identified the "castle like " building as the Royal Canadian Mint (which is also "castle like" in appearance, but is actually located behind me and to the left.

The "castle like building" is actually the Connaught Building, which is where the Canada Revenue Agency (i.e. "the tax collectors") is located.

The Westin Hotel is part of the Rideau Centre, the main downtown shopping mall.

Yes, we do have a mayor, and bits of City Hall are actually visible in the image, if you know where to look.

I suspect that the mayor's office has some interesting images, but when competing against the internationally renowned Yousef Karsh (his studio and home were in the Chateau Laurier Hotel; a "castle-like" building, just to the left of the Rideau Canal in this image). His younger brother Malak Karsh was a renowned landscape photographer and took many shots in and around Ottawa, so my competition will be tough.

Great shot Manfred, I think my Mac would catch fire if I tried to process a file this big!

Maybe...but if your work is one of the chosen one to grace his wall, then we can always say "we know this guy and proud of him and his work!"

    Very cool Manfred!

If I may be allowed one question?

Why not the tower dead center?

    Just curious.
