    Dust Particles in View Finder

    Hi All,

I just now got my camera cleaned from Nikon service center. They cleaned sensor and mirror however I can still see dust particles in view finder. I asked them the reason and they said those particles are in view finder.

I have checked and those are not visible in image. So what they are saying might be true.

If that needs to be cleaned camera needs to be opened. Also they dont guarrantee that 100% dust will be removed as all the particles might not be on the outer layer. Cleaning process will cost me 3000 INR which is not 100% cleaning. For 100% cleaning I might need to change the view finder which is way more that my pockets can afford.

My question is; is there any potential risk to mirror or sensor or any other part of camera due to the dust particles in view finder?

It will take some time for me to get accustomed to the particles seen while capturing the image but I prefer it rather than opening the camera if those have no potential risk to any other part of camera.

What is your suggesstion on getting it cleaned which anyways will not be 100% ?

I don't think there is a direct connection between the viewfinder and the sensor, if it were you wouldn't have cameras with articulating screens. The choice of getting it cleaned or not has to be yours; as we cannot determine the degree of the cosmetic difference.

I don't know if dust in/around the viewfinder area could make its way to the sensor, but as it does not show up on your photos at present, I would forget about it (assuming you can put up with seeing the dust in the viewfinder).

If the dust does find its way to the sensor, cleaning the sensor is not difficult.
