What is a Hawk walk?
Basically you get to handle 10 different species of "Birds of Prey"
I.e - Falcon, Buzzard, Harris hawk, all different species of owls.
And then you get to go on a walk down a track and the let one of the Harris Hawks fly off into the trees around you and it follows you along the path and fly though the trees and lands on your arm.
Amazing experience!
I recommend it to anybody!
Awwww........the shot is beautiful but I would crop a little bit to frame it well...how far were you to the bird when you took this shot? I am envious. Your Harris Hawk Walk seems interesting...I wish we have that here in the US...
Sam - The cropped version works better for me, the first shot there was too much background. I might even go tighter on the crop, not sure but would have to see it. If not tighter then definitely off center to left as you have done, gives the feeling that the hawk could be heading somewhere.
Also, maybe a touch of work in photoshop to remove the tether around his feet. Otherwise, focus and exposure look good to me. Well done.
Excellent captures - well taken.
Thanks guys, I will give photoshop a go to remove the tethers around the feet but I'm not very good haha.
Cheers,
Sam
Lucky you! being so close to nature like this one place is so much fun than airshows...
Hi Sam,
My suggestion is to not accidentally crop the tail feathers when shooting the whole bird.
This is something I find myself doing on these types of BoP experience days - the answer, with a perched bird, is to rotate the camera and shoot portrait format, it gives you a bit more latitude 'down there' over shooting in landscape orientation - the knack is remembering while you're shooting - as I know only too well
