    Black Capped Chikadees

This pair is nesting in my apple tree and providing a wonderful learning opportunity for me to improve this facet of my wildlife photography

Yes, difficult indeed, I also had some equipment shortfalls, so I hope to do better as I get things sorted out. This pair is feeding their chicks and so provide many chances for a shot but they are very fast, I mille second late = no shot. Thanks for looking and commenting Richard.

I like #1 Richard...that was an unusual pose...I was about to PM you if you were able to do the tripod and remote control trick and here you are with these shots. In #2 I was about to say the head of that one looks soft and guess what it did to #3 shot ??? --- it hide its head!!! Funny butt shot too!! Oh well...#4 is a consolation...that is a nice curious look...Thanks for sharing...

    Re: Black Capped Chikadees

My technique was all wrong for this due to the lack of a dedicated flash, the on-camera pop up got me something but far less than what I set the camera to, then my week little pop up screwed things up. In a perfect world I would shoot at 1/1000 at f8-11. My little flash was not enough so it fired at 1/250 at f4.... Next time! The chicks must be close to fledging given the size of the takeaway the parents are cleaning from the nest. I should sell my Canon 7D system and buy a nice piece of long glass for my Nikon D800E. I have a dedicated flash for the Canon but not for the Nikon. I have no logical reasons to keep two separate systems going and should just settle for the Nikon system.

This is extraordinary luck having this pair excavate a nesting hole in my apple tree and I hope they will use it again next season. Is there anyone who can tell me if these birds reuse their nesting holes? Thanks Izzie for looking and your kind comments.
