    Misty Mourning v.4

I must admit that this image was inspired by one of my favorite photographers on this site, can anybody guess who that may be?
When I woke up and saw the mist on the lake I instantly had a vision in my head. Now this is not exactly what I was going for but I don't quite have the skill level yet to capture and edit to match my vision, but it is close.
    C&C always appreciated.

    Dear Jon,

Although I am disappointed that it is not me, I still like this image.

Had you thought about creating a different look by using the top 1/2 of the image only?

I never said Who inspired this...how do you know it is not you?
I have played around with multiple different crops, and I have even deleted the bouy. None of which really did anything for me.
This one is the closest one to my mental image before the shot was taken.

Actually, I love the beautiful pastel colours! The gradient from left to right steps out. I even can enjoy the ripples in the water!

    This one is really cool!

...and with a little touch here and there. I too like the soft colors but I still had a B&W image in my head

I love the coloured version. Was this in Fort Wayne? If so, where is it located?
I recently moved here (for the summer months at least) and it looks like I might want to visit this spot. It looks soooooo peaceful!

I'm a big fan of monochrome, but the pastel colors in the original make a more compelling image, to me.

Thanks. Foster Park or one of the 3 Rivers would have been a lot closer....

Beautiful! It reminds me of Donald's imagery, and for some reason I'd be inclined to crop it square.

I prefer the original for the beautiful natural serene colours, and I also love the ripples. I also like the b&w but prefer the original colour version because the colours are stunningly gorgeous.

Colour version for me as well Jon. Those lovely pastels are just too good to waste. If the colour had been any stronger, then I would have plumped for the mono to retain as much simplicity as possible. Nice shot.

I think that depends on the image you wanted to create

    And there's the answer.

I don't think this is something on which you can say one is 'better' than the other. Sure, people will have preferences. But if you 'saw' a B & W image at the time you made the capture, then you have made a very fine B & W image.

I think the colour image is very pretty. But I think the B & W has a much stronger narrative. It's got much more mystery and it's the one that would hold my attention for longer.

No arguing over taste, I suppose.

A very nice image--captures a mood very well. In general, I would lean toward the B&W, but in this case, I think the color is better. As edited, the B&W lacks contrast, and it is mostly negative space. That negative space is beautiful, subtle pastels in the color version.

    Thanks Donald
The funny thing is that I didn't even notice the colors until I got them on the computer, I was focused on B&W that morning.

Foster or 3 rivers would have been further for me on this morning, I have a place on the lake.

That just proves that you're now, as Michael Freeman puts it, 'seeing' in B & W.
