    Hi Dan

    I gave up CC subscription a few months back so Im back to CS6 and I'm using Window 7 and after selecting gradient tool, you can click on the gradient bar itself (in the top left corner) and you will get that dialogue box.

    Dean,

    Thanks. I was unfamiliar with the tool, so this is helpful. I just checked, and if you add a gradient adjustment layer, which is what Chauncey did, the default is smoothness set to 100%, at least in my installation of PS CC 2015.

    It seems like the only answer to this, when it is a problem is either to temporarily change the cache levels to 1 or add some noise. If the gradient is on a separate layer, the latter should be fine, it seems to me.
