At first glance it looked like an upended airplane, then I felt a resemblance to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. Nicely captured.

You should had given us a bit of history, a short narrative as to what we are looking for...it might be world famous, but I am one of those ignorant of this sculpture until you put it here then have to google it to know what it really is. Pretty much like when I first came here to Missouri and we passed by the Gateway Arch, my husband was so proud to show me it through the window and said it is a very famous place as it represented something. "Famous" ?? -- been around the world almost three times and I never been to the Midwest...Living here, I got to know more of it...you get my drip?

Yes what a good bit of advice!
I am sorry I haven't provided this information and what I will do from now on is exactly that!
I understand totally and get that people may not know or have ever heard of things such as this.

    Thanks

    Sam

Well captured - Unlike Izzie I know where this is........and you've done a good job on what is not any easy capture. Have you been to Crosby to see Anthony Gormley's other installation, the name of which escapes me - another great photo opportunity perhaps nearer to you than this ?

    Angel Of The North

The artist is called Anthony Gormley ( my spellcheck want me to use gormless then!) he has produced quite a number of pieces of art which are displayed around the UK. There is some of his work around the Lytham St Ann's area which stand in the sea and are submerged as the tide rises.
As an aside when the Angel of the North first unveiled some people who I worked with (who were from Newcastle) used to refer to the statue as "Kevin" which was lost on me, I just had to ask why.....
It was because around that time Newcastle Football Club had been managed by Kevin Kegan.
I still didn't get it until they explained the reason it was christened Kevin because like Kevin Kegan the statue turned it back on Newcastle. Kegan left the managers job around the time the statue was placed on the site. Newcastle is to the North of the statue across the River Tyne the statue faces South (ISH).
When ever we drive past one of us will always say give Kevin a waveAngel Of The NorthAngel Of The NorthAngel Of The North
I have yet to make an image of Kevin, maybe I should add it to my to shoot list

Edit I've just noticed Kaye has mention the tidal statues at Crosby not Lytham as I wrote.

Thanks for the comments guys ,
I will definitely look into some of his other works and as a family member own a lodge in Lytham St Ann's I I think that gives me a great excuse to go up there sometime and have a look .

I read that some locals also call it the Gateshead Flasher. it's interesting but not uncommon how sculpture/architecture can be interpreted over its life.

This is a nice image and interesting sculpture. I did not know about it but I have seen other Gormley work in Somerset when we were visiting there two or three years ago.

What is it with the Brits christening anything static or non-static objects with different names other than what it really stands for? Aussies are the same...that is why I love you people...never a dull moment...

I'm sorry I can't really answer your question Izzie.

But ...this may give you an insight to the UK christening of static objects!,
From my forum name the "ST" part is my sons term of endearment for his dear old Dad.
This goes back a long way one of his school friends christened me "Slug Tache" (or Tash) but in the family shortened to ST which; apparently came from a character in a UK television show called Blackadder.
When you have some spare time Isabel "Izzie" Angel Of The North google it and watch some clips, I'm not sure how the UK humour will translate for you but you may get a giggle or twoAngel Of The North
