DVD image distro: resizing to final jpeg query

Hi All
Now that I am happily converting my raw files to DNG then after processing saving them as a smaller size jpeg for web uploading e.g 750 or 800 pixels as max dimension (using image resize in CS3).
Now I have a new question - I was lucky enough to shoot at an International wheelchair Basketball game last night and I want to pass on the best images on a DVD to the BB Association Manager...not knowing if they will be then used to print or upload....is there a standard final jpeg output that is best for 'generic' viewing?.
I don't want to send the DVD of what looked good as a web upload only to have it look terrible if they later try to enlarge it again as a print.

Hi Kay,

First thing to say is; congratulations.

The second is; good picture, tightly cropped, plenty of action and concentration.

Third thing is to attempt an amateur answer to your question;
I think your concerns are valid and I, in your position, would consider saving a maximum resolution, "sharpened for print" set in one folder called "for_printing", then a whole second set, at a maximum size of 800 on longest edge (and "sharpened for web"), in a folder called "for_web_use".

You might want to think about a minimum size (inches or cm) and print resolution (ppi, say 200) to weed out any that are large crops from the captured image if printed say 8" x 10" or onto A4/Letter paper full size.

Hopefully a pro will be along with better advice shortly.

Also thank you so much for your words of encouragement - you are very kind.
I have been trying to invest some time in online learning here with you guys, night school classes and practice - and am enjoying all 3 in equal measure..although the entertainment here is much better than at night school!
I think whoever said find 1 subject matter that interests you and keep shooting that as you're learning was very smart - that was probably Colin I guess!

One follow up on re-reading this sentence again, always make sure you do include both versions of every image, if something isn't good enough to print, I would avoid including a web version only; just in case the recipient takes a shine to it and ends up printing (the typically 72dpi web images) on a sheet of A4 anyway - it could harm your reputation.

Make sure ALL the image metadata has your contact details (e.g. at least an e-mail address) and named copyright info in.

Yes, I did that in 2008 with road race cycling, it helps build your confidence to get on top of something rather than spread yourself too thin and make, at best, mediocre images of many different things. In fact I might have to do that again (specialise, I mean), as I'm getting disatisfied with my QA, little ever sees the light of day here and what does isn't great. Thanks for the reminder.
