    backlit back of a dahlia

This caught my eye on my back deck just as the sun was going down. I rushed to get a few shots before the backlighting disappeared. Single shot, f/11. C&C welcome, as always.

I cannot help but comment on this one, Dan...I like the shot for what it looks like to me a beautiful lamp looking up from the bottom. It might help to remove/clone out gently the extra leaf showing at the left side and at the left side of the stem. I love it.

Beautiful image Dan. Second Izzies comment, I'd clone that little leaf poking up bottom left of the stem.

This perspective shows the blossoming nature of the flower thanks to the various layers of leaves and petals. Well done!

Not usually into flower shots Dan but I like this. On the nail for exposure.

Thanks, all. Izzie and Greg--very good suggestion. I quickly cloned out the leaf. Didn't to a perfect job, but I have to get to work. Will look at it again in the evening. Here is the first attempt. Even with some flaws, i think it is much better than the original, so thanks for the suggestion.

I like the first one better. Those leaves provided some balance to the ones on the right. I really love the photo. Such beautiful colors and as others said, exposure is right on. Well done!

I agree with Terri and Kaye about leaving the far left leaves in the image. I would probably remove or tone down the very bright leaf immediately to the left of the subject's stem.

Re: backlit back of a dahlia

Thanks all. I will go back to the drawing board one of these evenings and decide which I like best. BTW, the left-hand leaves that I removed in the second one were darkened in the first. I didn't yet darken the small leaf that Mike and Greg mentioned.

Great composition, colors and light I prefer your original edit as the composition looks more balanced.
