Benchmark: I could go lighter but this is as good as I can get out of the S4200

Shot under gray skies in Aperture priority, with a touch of macro/telephoto and a few notches underexposed. I did flip it and scale it in Gimp but otherwise it is as it comes out of the camera. It is as good as I can do.

I am posting this so that next week when the new camera arrives I can post a comparative shot and see what the difference is. And I realize as Grumpy D pointed out that this should and could be done in a more controlled way but this way keeps me busy until the new camera arrives. I am feeling a bit like the young taylor in Fiddler On The Roof as he awaits his sewing machine.

Just for reference this is one of the first shots I took with the 4200

I previously erased this comment because aftewr I read Brian's post, I didn't think that the coment was applicable.

    However, here it is.

I basically brightened the image quite a bit and added some sharpening and contrast. I also placed a slight vignette. I worked in Photoshop CS6 and NIK software but, I think that everything could be done in GIMP.

IMO, the final criteria of a camera's quality or ability is the edited image, not the SOOC image.

I have yet to find a good way to get a vignette in Gimp. I am sure it is there but I can't find it. I would agree with you about camera quality and final shot.

Which is one reason to post this unprocessed shot. My new camera has raw and I am curious how the basic shot, a raw shot and a jpeg shot will compare to this shot.

    So much to learn
