The vignette was done in camera as was the slight hdr. I am seriously impressed with a bigger sensor, a better lens, and lots of in-camera options.

I'm much better when I'm photographing things, like walls, that stay still. All this wildlife and sports action stuff is too much for my camera (or could it be me?!).

The two medium sized stones on the right seem as if they're on the same plane as the main subjects rocks. However, they're out of focus. That means, I take it, that they are not on the same plane and are, indeed, further back. And that you used a very narrow depth-of-field to throw them out of focus. I just find that my brain can't accept them being further back than the main, large stone.

They are almost 1 meter behind the main stone on the left. I was about 1/2 meter away from the front stones and I used f/22 at a focal length of 67mm (35mm equiv). Not being a real techy (yet) I had thought that would produce a deepish dof? I am gong to have to work on the tech side.

Brian, I believe the A58 has a depth of field preview button which should help. I wonder also if it works tethered to an iPad or similar larger screen device. Could be really useful if it does.

The effect may have to do with the in-camera processing more than your camera settings.
