This is still on my "to do" list. We've got to get there sometime.
If you are planning to revisit, I wonder if a tighter crop might not be in order. The trees, rather than the house dominate the shot and really don't contribute anything to the composition. I wonder if a vertical (portrait) orientation might not work better?
I agree, looks better. I'm really anxious to shoot again with a different camera. This picture was taken with a Nikon P&S.
This version works better for me too. The house, rather than the trees are now the main point of the shot.
I still don't like that straight black twig...It is not so much of a distraction but it still was the first thing I saw when I opened the image...
I agree. I have this printed on metallic and it came out very nice. I'll be in the area and reshoot in a couple weeks with a different camera, tripod, raw and hopefully more time.
Depends what you want from this scene. As Manfred mentioned, the crop clearly focuses in on the building but I suspect there is also another option here.
A slight crop from the right and bottom would show the building blending in amongst the trees.
Whichever takes your fancy, Doug.
I suspect I would start with something like 5 x 4 ratio then possibly try square?
Quite a few options here by the look of it. No simple right or wrong firm rules to follow.
