    Sea Kayaks

We went past a sea kayak rental place. Can you tell?

They are being tied down for the night.... There is absolutely no subtlety here, just "in your face" colours.

That's what colour photography should be about ... as I've written before.

    Wonderful images.

The difficult part for me of making images in this style is to find something, a pattern, a break in a pattern, a color, a shape or whatever, to anchor the image. The second one does that very well for me.

I very much like both images but would have to choose #1 as my preference. The contrast between the water and the brilliantly coloured lashed kayaks is fabulous. Great pair of photos.

I like both of them for different reasons -- #1 is the overview and the second one just because the tighter colours do not have to compete for attention to the water element included in the first one. But I am still looking for the transparent one amongst them...didn't find any...

The phrase "a riot of colour" seems appropriate here Manfred. Two nice images but the second for me for the reasons Mike has already pointed out. If these are crops, it might be interesting to see what moving the second slightly to the right with the line between the two rows of kayaks on more of a diagonal looks like.

John - these are full frame shots with no cropping at all.

The first shot was intended as more of a documentary shot, showing the sheer number of the kayaks. I took quite a number of them, most included a man, in a kayak himself, tying the boats down for the night, but this actually took away from the shot.

The second shot was really the art shot that shows the burst of colours, with just enough of the sea and the reflection showing through to let the viewer know that these are in the water, rather in a warehouse or on shore. I might go back and try cropping to see how the suggestion that you and Mike made works.

It looks like the Vietnamese are far more orderly when it comes to storing their kayaks. A nice shot, Ken.
