Stunning Brian, I really love the deep red colour of the flower.
Now don't tell me this image doesn't have any drama

I don't believe it is. It could be but it never opens up. Mind you he leaves and bush size are similar so it could be a variety.

This one does seem to work nicely. Certainly the best shot yet of this plant for me.

I just did a quick search and at least one page declares this to be a Gumamela. It certainly could be.

I have decided tom stick to the basics that the 4200 taught me. The skills transfer nicely. I will play with the fancy stuff later

I have tried dozens of times but never quite got it right. This time it seems to have worked well.

I kind of knew you would do it. As you can see in this histogram for the red channel, most of the red pixels are in the dark region, but there are red pixels also that reach the 255 level, right up to the right wall of the histogram. Your flower illustrates the problem with reds very well, and with your new camera you will have a bit of extra leeway in RAW for tricky situations like this. Well done, way to go!

false modesty aside the new camera certainly makes a difference, as does the new Sony Express software. it allows me to tailor individual colours..
