    Machair Beach Isle of Islay

One of the beaches on Islay, this beach has inhabited properties around it. Including a farm with a Distillery (Kilchoman). I did visit the distillery (well it would have been rude not to) but it isn't that photogenic so no photos of it, I did have a coffee there though.

#1 The remains of what is believed to be the Steamship Patti wrecked circa 1840, just staring to show on the afternoon.

Looking good to me; possibly a lot of plain sand in #2.

Nice series Peter. 2 and 4 for me. 2 for the feeling of emptiness it creates and four for the interest.

Aah, it's been a few years since I was on that beach ... and in Kilchoman!

    Lovely set of images.

    Hi Peter,

I wondered what prompted the dogged use of f/16 and ISO100?

#1 seems a little dim, although I accept the histogram looks OK, because of the small bright area on right, for me the Patti are just a bit too central compositionally

#2 does have a fair bit of bland sand foreground, but the overall ratio kind of works, so for me, the issue is one of the location within the frame of the 'foreground interest' subject. I wonder if you could have shot this view from a little closer to it, so it was lower in the composition? (but in all other respects, they shot would stay the same)

#3 is my favourite, the only thing that detracts for me is that the same comment I made about sharpening in your Lochan na Lairge shot applies here; too wide a radius and slightly too much amount. In other respects, it really works; with some decent clouds to balance the foreground.

#4 my eyes are drawn to the foreground sea foam, I'd have cropped it all off, which I also think gives a better composition of the wreck - which I assume is Patti again?

I hope those thoughts help - and don't appear too critical.

PS I hope you found your specs, although looking at the terrain, that might be tricky.

    All the best, Dave

    #1 Does nothing for me...Sorry.
#2 Is a nice sort of shot but you should have taken more of the clouds than the sanded foreground. If you move this shot downwards to remove some of the sand foreground, you will find a panorama sort of crop that is more like-able.
#3 is really very nice done and
#4 is the mysterious wreck. I love both #3 and #4.

Hi Peter 2,3 and 4 for me. Very nice scenes. IMO #3 looks too crisp because of oversharpening.

Dave thank you for the concise feedback, I shall try your crop suggestion for image 4. WRT f16 and ISo100 it's just habitual laziness on my part (my old headmaster I'm sure wrote some word regarding my schoolwork) plus it was our anniversary and we had to dash back from Port Charlotte to this beach for my specs search. I was very surprised to locate them having crossed the beck again following it down to the ocean I returned to my crossing point and the spectacles were in the sand in the dunes (end of) visible in image 3 just to the left of the beck. Thanks again for spotting my schoolboy sharpening errors.
