    The Heavens

Playing around with some shots that I took back in December 2012 in Death Valley. I think I have found some settings that are giving me more of what I am looking for with sky shots. Hope to get out sometime in the next few days or weeks to a couple of locations that might give me a good foreground to anchor the shot.

    Cheers: Allan

Fascinating shot Allan. Not a lot of light pollution in Death Valley.

For my edification...what kind of gear and settings do you use?

Chauncey thanks for the nice words, now for what I used, well a tripod (given) Nikon D600, 16-35mm f/4 lens, set at f/4, 17mm, 13 seconds at ISO 12800 exposure comp was +.33. Knowing what I do now I should have exposed it for at least twice that time.
New article in Luminous-Landscape by Adam Woodworth on the new Nikon D810A, compares it with the D800 and D750, well that D750 turns out some real nice stuff almost as good as the D810a and better than the D810.

    A very nice shot, Allan.

I've got to get out to a "dark sky" location one of these years to try a shot like this too. It's absolutely amazing how much light the stars actually push out.

Awwww .... so beautiful Allan...I envy you for this shot....we have a lot of light pollution around here that I want to try my 150-500mm instead. I think it was Matt who said, with a long lens, anything is possible. With the warmer conditions at night, it might be worth a try. 16-35 lens can get you some anchoring...I will remember that...My widest is 18-24mm, I wonder if that will do? I guess it depends on where I point it but not here where we are right now...
