    Pan Am Games

Taken inside the Sky Dome, the opening ceremony for these Pan Am Games. The shot is very noisy. Taken at f 1.8 , 1/125. iso 800, 50mm. I found the lighting quite difficult with the bright spotlights in an otherwise dark room. For most of my other shots I had very high ISO because of fast movement of the participants. For this shot I lowered the ISO but am still surprised at how much noise I ended up with.
This shot shows the Pan Am Games and Olympic flags being brought into the stadium.

Nicely done, considering the small size of the subjects (people) I personally wouldn't be looking for too much detail within those areas; sharp yes as much as possible but not particularly concerned. Too me the main element is the lights and dark shadows, I would consider doing a levels adjustment on the darks and see if it blends or evens out some of the noise.

I've always found that the blue channel is particularly sensitive to noise and your image is predominantly blue, so that might explain the issue. Regardless a very good shot.

Thanks John. I will have a look at that. PS. I tried that and it seems better to me, and I am happy with it

    Hi Joe,

I think it is surprisingly good given the conditions, others have already have already addressed the noise issue, which again isn't that bad here.

My suggestion is simply to make the centre flagpole vertical.

Sounds exciting! I will look forward to seeing more & yes, the low light & bright light indoors is a challenge for us sports fans!
This has set the scene for us nicely though.

I have nothing to add to what everyone else has already mentioned except to say that I really like the mood. This is a wonderful photo in my mind.
